The week before Valentine’s Day was a somewhat challenging one for me… There were some work things going on and it was kind of rough, so Tom was incredibly sweet and decided to fly out Friday night so we could spend the weekend and Valentine’s Day (the following Tuesday) together. It was such a wonderful surprise and we had a great weekend together!
My ward was having a pre-Valentine’s Day dance that Saturday, and since I was on the planning committee, Tom was gracious enough to come. Ward dances aren’t either of our favorite things, but it was nice to be there together and help out! They had a professional dance teacher come in and teach a few steps, and to avoid the awkwardness of some people not having dates, they rotated partners… So Tom and I both danced with way more people than we would’ve liked because we really just wanted to dance with each other!
That Sunday I was speaking in church, and it was so nice to have Tom there to support me! My sisters also came and that was really sweet of them! It was so wonderful to just have the weekend to spend together!
Valentine’s Day was simply wonderful! It started with me making breakfast for Tom (heart-shaped pancakes, eggs, sausage, and juice) and then giving him “The 14 Hours of Valentine’s” gifts for him to open each hour of the day. I then went to work and received two-dozen gorgeous roses that were delivered to my office with the sweetest note!
After work, I came home and we drove up to Salt Lake for our Valentine’s date. Tom had made us dinner reservations at Buca di Beppo, and the food was so yummy! We had garlic cheese bread (probably some of the most delicious bread we’ve ever had) and shared an entree of stuffed shells. It was so yummy and we ate it all!
After dinner we walked over to Capitol Theater as Tom had gotten us ballet tickets to see Sleeping Beauty. It was so good and very reminiscent of when we saw the Nutcracker in Boston together! Tom is so sweet and thoughtful and it was such a wonderful night!
The ballet got over about 10:00 and we headed back to Orem. I actually fell asleep on the ride home and while I had somewhat anticipated that a proposal would happen today, I figured that with the late night it wouldn’t after all. Little did I know… 🙂
When Tom and I arrived back at home, he didn’t pull into the garage like he normally does… He stopped in the driveway and said we should use the front door. This is when I started thinking maybe the proposal was happening tonight after all! Apparently Tom had arranged with Chantelle and Danielle that while we were away, they would set up hundreds of candles and lights and rose petals everywhere! It was so incredibly romantic and beautiful when we walked in!
A movie began playing on the TV as soon as we walked in, and it was titled “T&T’s Story of Firsts.” Tom had put together a movie of all our “firsts” from the exciting things (like our first kiss) to some of the sillier things (like the first time we made dinner together). It was so incredibly sweet! Tom knows that firsts are really special to me, so it was especially thoughtful! We watched the video together and then…
Tom got down on one knee and proposed! It was the most wonderful moment!
The twins were there videoing the proposal, so we took a few pictures with them after. My parents were also on FaceTime and were able to watch the proposal, and that was special too! Tom had called my dad to ask his permission to marry me, and I could tell they were grateful to be part of our special moment!
It’s so crazy and exciting and almost unbelievable at times to be engaged to each other and heading down the road of eternity… Neither of us knew life could be so full of happiness and love, and our proposal was certainly no exception!
We went to the Bombay House the next night to celebrate, and then on Thursday night we went to Market Street Grill to continue the celebration and introduce Tom to one of my favorite Utah restaurants. We also stopped by Grandpa and Ana-Maria’s home to introduce Tom to them and share with them our wonderful story! It’s so exciting to be engaged and we can’t wait to spend forever together!
