For Memorial Day weekend, we decided to go to Burley to spend time with Mom Bowcut. It was a beautiful weekend and we had a great time!
Saturday afternoon we decided to go to Shoshone Falls, and it was beautiful! They had diverted a lot of the water for farmers to use, so it wasn’t as full as it normally is. I’ve never seen it before though, so I still thought it was amazing!
We also went to Dierkes Lake and hiked around a bit. After that we drove home and made a quick stop at this HUGE bridge. It wasn’t scary going across, but once I saw how high it was, I was a little nervous! It was really pretty though and I can’t believe I hadn’t ever been here before! It was fun having Tom show me around… Everything is better with him anyway!
Saturday night after visiting Shoshone Falls we decided to relive our first date and go to the Upper Crust restaurant. It was so fun to go back there and thinking about how we couldn’t have even imagined that we’d be here six months later MARRIED!
After dinner we went home and admired the sunset. It was beautiful! There were some pretty crazy birds that we couldn’t get rid of, but they didn’t stop us from enjoying the amazing scenery!
Sunday we went to church and it was fun to meet so many people that Tom grew up with and knew in the ward. After church Tom drove me around to see some of the places that were special to him, like the wardhouse in Pella. This site has a lot of memories for Tom, including doing his Eagle Scout project here, and it was fun to reminisce with him!
Monday on the actual Memorial Day holiday we kept with the Bowcut Burley tradition of visiting the cemeteries where families were buried. We visited the cemetery in Burley where Tom’s dad is buried, as well as the cemetery in Pleasant View and Oakley wehre other family members are buried. It was really special and a good reminder of the strong family heritage we are honored to be part of!
After visiting the cemeteries, we had a barbecue on the Snake River with Connie and her family. It was my first time meeting most of them, and it was neat to see the relationship that Tom has as their uncle and friend! Mom Bowcut also gave us some sunhats to keep us from burning — we were very grateful!
It was a great weekend and we definitely look forward to continuing this tradition next year!
