Our two-year anniversary was Sunday, February 17, and Tom went above and beyond to make it a special weekend. I am so grateful for his thoughtfulness and it was a weekend we never want to forget!
After church that Sunday morning, Tom mentioned that we should “pack up and get ready.” He had created a whole surprise weekend for us! We packed up Isaac and took him to the McBrides for the night, which Tom had also arranged, and then we drove downtown for a “staycation” at Hotel Monaco! It was a BEAUTIFUL room and we got upgraded to a corner king room, which was huge! It was awesome and so much fun!
Since we checked in fairly early, we had time before our dinner reservations, so we walked through downtown and over to Temple Square. It was pretty cold and starting to softly snow, so the square was pretty much empty. It was really neat to have it all to ourselves essentially and just be able to enjoy the moment. The snow softly snowing was so romantic too, and it was just a perfect moment as we stood in each other’s arms and looked at the temple with the snow falling around us!
We spent some time in the visitor’s center as well, and it was special to sit and look at the Christus and realize that every good gift in our lives has come because of the Savior and our desire (albeit not perfect) to follow Him. We’re so grateful for our testimonies and especially our relationship, and it was special to reflect on this as we sat by each other’s side and looked at the Christus.
The afternoon was just full of so many beautiful moments, between visiting Temple Square, walking through the visitor’s center, walking through a very empty City Creek, and just being together in the softly falling snow.
In the evening, we had dinner reservations at Market Street Grill, one of our favorite restaurants! It was even more special because Abby, our niece, was our waitress! It was fun to see her – she’s such a sweet girl. Plus, dinner was delicious! We chose key lime pie and sabayon for dessert, and Abby even gave us a quart of clam chowder and loaf of yummy bread to take home… And, her manager gave us the employee discount, so the whole bill was half off! It was the cherry on top of a fabulous day! After dinner, we walked back to the hotel and watched some NBA all-star game highlights before heading to bed.
The next morning we woke up, showered and got ready, and then left the hotel about 11:00am. Before we left, we heard from Danielle that she was being induced, so that made for an exciting day! She was admitted to the hospital but they said it would be at least 12 hours, so we ended up going to see her in the afternoon. After we left the hotel, we went to breakfast at the Original Pancake House. It was so yummy and we talked about it being a fun tradition to go to the pancake house every year on President’s Day.
Our anniversary was such a wonderful weekend full of perfect moments that we hope to never forget!
