Tom turned 42 this year and I turned 38, and both were really great days! Birthdays are definitely special, though every day together is special as well! We certainly made some memories this year — here’s what we did!
Tom’s birthday was on a Thursday and we both had the day off work. Unfortunately I had to work in the morning to attend a fundraising breakfast, but after I got home we went on a walk as a family and took the kids to play in the park. It was a really nice day, though it was pretty windy! I had packed a picnic lunch for us to eat in the park and that was fun. Then we dropped the kids off at McBride’s and headed up to Park City to go on a bike ride! We rented e-bikes from a local company and then took off on some of the local trails. It was so much fun and we were able to cover a lot of distance! (Tom had mentioned that he’d used e-bikes in Italy and that it was really fun, so that’s where the idea came from!) We started by going to Main Street and then were going to head up to Deer Valley, but the weather started raining so we headed back to Main Street and went into a few shops while the storm passed.
One of the shops we went to is Dolly’s Bookstore, which is such a fun little store and one that I went to a lot as a kid! It is connected to Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, so we got a caramel apple to share and Tom got some ice cream. So yummy!
Next we headed down the junction and ended up at the big white barn that is pretty iconic to Park City. It was a beautiful ride and the stormy clouds made for a cool and perfect day to bike!
We also biked by some of the Olympic sites and took a few funny pictures… If only!
We then continued down the trails and biked right up until the time our rental was complete — four hours went by so quickly! We then came home and had Cafe Rio for dinner while watching the NBA playoffs after the kids went to bed. It was a really great day full of things that Tom loves!
My birthday was a Tuesday, so the day before (Monday), Tom arranged for Sara McBride to take the kids overnight so we could go on a little staycation downtown. It was so thoughtful! After we dropped the kids off, we headed to the Gateway movie theater and saw Aladdin. It was an awesome show and so much fun to enjoy a movie in the theater!
After dinner we went to Market Street Grill for dinner, which was yummy as always! Abby was our waitress, which made it even more awesome! Unfortunately I’d left my phone in the movie theater, so Tom had to go back but thankfully it was still there. Definitely a tender mercy! Once he got back, we were able to really enjoy our dinner and conversation with Abby. It was a great night!
The next morning we had breakfast at a place called The Bagel Project, which is across the street from our hotel. Tom had a bagel sandwich and I had a bagel with cream cheese and strawberry jam — delish!
Next we headed to the Grand America so I could visit the spa. I had an appointment for the detox wrap and as part of that, you get access to their full spa area. So, I had about an hour and a half before the appointment to relax and enjoy. (Tom had a lot of work, so he sat in the lobby working and it actually worked out quite well!) They gave me a lavender honey popsicle when I arrived and then I was able to just enjoy the experience… It was wonderful and so relaxing!
After the spa we went to the Salt Lake Temple to do an endowment session. This is absolutely one of our favorite things to do together. We even had the chance to be the witness couple, which made it even more special!
We spent the evening with our kiddos, whom we had missed during the day. It’s always nice to get away just the two of us, but it’s crazy how much we also really miss our cute kids! Our birthdays are in the books for another year, but we’ll hang onto the memories for sure until then!
