The last weekend in June we decided to go to the Manti Pageant. It was quite the weekend and we made lots of memories — some good, some crazy, and thankfully mostly all fun!
We decided to stay the night in Manti so we could go to the pageant on Friday and the temple on Saturday, but with how popular the pageant is, we couldn’t find a hotel right in Manti. We checked Air BNB and there was a place in Mount Pleasant called the Gray Pigeon Inn that looked cute, so we booked a room there. We dropped our bags off on the way down, and let’s just say it was an interesting place! It was really cute and old, but at the same time a little creepy because there was no one there. We talked about renting the whole house someday and doing a murder mystery weekend, and that would be fun! After we dropped off our things, we drove to Manti and were actually able to find a really great parking spot. We then walked around and went to the armory where the Boy Scouts were doing a dinner fundraiser, and it was actually pretty good for a mass dinner! We also got these Twister drinks and they were really yummy!
We then went to the pageant and had a really nice time! The pageant started when the sun went down so we had some time to sit and talk before… I think that’s our favorite thing to do! The pageant was really special and the spirit there was really strong… It was a great night and we’re so glad we went!
After the pageant we went back to our bed and breakfast and we were still the only ones there (as far as we knew). We got ready for bed, and it was an interesting set-up! The room was essentially a closed-in balcony and there was a daybed with a trundle, so we didn’t even sleep in the same bed! Also, there was a window on the door with a thin chiffon curtain, so we had to cover it with a towel. It was just so interesting! We were glad to have a room though, so we just went to bed. Well we weren’t asleep long before we heard the door open downstairs and footsteps coming up the creaky stairs. It sounded like the steps were coming toward our room, so I watched the window and saw this shadowy figure walk right up to our door and then start jiggling the handle trying to get in! It was SO freaky and creepy! Tom started saying “hello” and pushing the door shut, and the person finally said that they were the landlord just making sure we were checked in. Um, HELLO! That’s not how you check in on someone! Thankfully no harm was done, but still… It was SO scary! We were able to calm down, and then the door downstairs opened again… Footsteps came upstairs, but thankfully they were for the room next door. We then started to fall asleep and it started again… But this time the people didn’t go in their room. They started being SO loud and obnoxious, and at times even intimate… It was crazy! At one point they went downstairs, so we went out into the hall to use the bathroom and then they started coming up the stairs. I asked them to be quiet, and we totally freaked them out. The girl almost fell back down the stairs because she didn’t realize anyone else was there! I think they were embarrassed after how loud they’d been, and they were quiet after that thankfully. We didn’t get much sleep, but it’s definitely a night we won’t soon forget!
Needless to say, we woke up pretty early and headed over to the Manti temple. We figured it would be busy and we wanted to make sure to get on a session, and thankfully we did! It was really neat being in the temple and doing the live session, and each room was so beautiful. Going to temples is a big thing for us, and this one was definitely special.
After the session, we stopped at the temple cafeteria for lunch and ended up getting much more food than we expected! I had the smothered chicken and Tom had the turkey dinner, and for dessert we had the Manti temple special lemon crunch pie. It was delicious! We then went into town and did a little sightseeing and it was fun to get to know Manti, Ephraim, and Mount Pleasant. We even took a picture at the “hub” of Utah!
On our way home, it was such a hot day so we decided to stop at Seven Peaks water park to cool off! We had so much fun going down the slides and swimming together… It was a crazy busy and fun day and a weekend we’ll always remember!
